Washed Out - Feel It All Around

Chillwave is a supposed genre created in the summer of ‘09 (informally know as the summer of no regrets). Well, really it was created in the summer of ‘010 because that’s when someone decided to put a name to the shoe-gaze/80s-throwback/indie/lo-fi genre. Bands like Neon Indian, Washed Out, and a few other made some music in ‘09 that sounded kinda the same: ’80s something with heavy reverb and a lethargic drum machine to back it up. Then, sometime after, a blogger from Hipster Runoff used the word “chillwave” to describe a few of those bands. I’m pretty sure from here some folks started using chillwave as a joke and it stuck. Today, people still use the made-up classification as a joke, but apparently it is also a legit genre, or so Wikipedia claims.

So get some chillwave on that summer mixtape of yours and start making ridiculous chillwave remarks.
