I downloaded Sabzi’s mixtape today and a few tracks are clearly covers of other songs. If anyone else out there recognizes any track as a cover, let me know. This is driving me crazy. These are my finds so far.

Sabzi is one half of the Seattle hip hop duo Blue Scholars. He just released a mixtape on Bandcamp of instrumental work. Parthenia definitely has Sabzi sound: echoed claps, arpeggio synths, and chill ‘2’ feel. It’s up for a pay-what-you-want download. It’s great music to work to.

“Concerning The UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois” just got real. Sufjan Stevens is probably one of the most versatile musicians out there right now, producing music from the odd to the inspirational to the beautiful. It is rare to see his work represented by other artists (probably because most of it is difficult to sample and mix). But here, Sabzi of Blue Scholars does a wonderful job mixing in Sufjan with with own style. It is a very good listen and the rest of the EP is available for free. So, do it.
